Mankato State University Trafton Science Center
Mankato, MN
A 16,000 sf renovation and 70,000 sf addition
Project Description
This addition brings chemistry labs and classrooms to the Trafton Science Center, and expresses the University’s commitment to educational excellence in the field of high technology. Featured are a telecommunications lab with a roof top antenna array, a wind tunnel lab, a vibration testing lab, mechanical engineering labs, and a clean room. Other spaces include two large lecture halls and faculty offices.
Ford Hall makes Trafton Science Center one of the state’s “greenest.” The University’s facilities management team estimates a 4-6 year payback on the additional $1 million spent to upgrade the buildings electrical/mechanical systems. Annual savings are estimated at over $180,000. Construction recycling was part of the plan, with 76% of all the waste material produced by the project being recycled.
