Xcel Energy Prairie Island Nuclear Administration Building
Welch, MN
A 79,930 sf ground-up administration building
Project Description
The new building was designed with energy efficiency in mind and is expected to save Xcel $22 million over the buildings lifespan. Included in the building is a centralized meeting and conference space for large groups, many breakout spaces for team work, cafeteria and break rooms, and a large emergency shelter.
The Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant generates about 1,100 megawatts of electricity, which is enough to serve 1 million homes. About 800 people work full time at the plant, which is on a 520-acre site about 40 miles southeast of the Twin Cities.
Xcel Energy moved in to their new three-story administration building over two months early.
